Policy goals: All people of color belong
All immigrants belong
“Belonging is the most important good we distribute in society, as it is prior to and informs all other distributive decisions.”
This nation has always depended on immigrants, but elite institutions have shifted this sentiment toward immigrants drastically over time to fuel otherness and profits. Early White immigrants were eventually accepted, but now elite institutions and the people who run them have created a myth that today’s immigrants and refugees are not deserving of the same rights and protections that were provided to those in previous generations. In fact, a mass deportation system now mirrors that of the mass incarceration system in its profit motives. Principally, we need to reverse the tide of recent presidential administrations by demanding:
policies for consideration:
- Clear, timely, and unobstructed pathways to citizenship for all immigrants currently living in the US and for those entering the US in the future. This includes expanded protections and benefits for those under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), Temporary Protection Status (TPS), and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED).
- Eliminate Immigration Custom Enforcement (ICE) and create a border patrol that is accountable for humane practices.
